Auto vs. Manual Mixing:
The Solution to Operator Problems...
One of the downsides of today's sophisticated audio systems is the lack of qualified people to operate the equipment. Very few houses of worship can afford to pay a professional sound tech to run the PA and must depend on volunteer sound system operators. This often results in feedback, dead microphones and other audio glitches.
At Sound Planning, we constantly deal with "pilot error" -- sound problems related to improper adjustment and too much fiddling with the audio equipment.
In many situations the solution to these operator problems is a Protech Automatic Mixer. An automatic mixer works like a highly skilled sound operator (only faster) turning down unused microphones so the active microphones can work at their maximum potential. This means a sound system will sound better, never feedback, and the pickup of the microphones is significantly increased.
Sound Planning has installed Protech Automatic Mixers in many houses of worship and other locations where multiple microphones are used.
Why Protech?
Because they were the first manufacturer to get it right. These units work perfectly with very little adjustment and have reduced our service calls by more than 50%.
Digital Mixing
Digital Audio Mixers have grown in popularity as prices have dropped in recent
years. They offer several advantages over conventional mixers.
1. Presets. Every setting (volume, EQ, effects, compression etc) can be stored
and recalled with one button. The system can be instantly reset to the
parameters that were set up by the installer or operator.
2. IPAD control. Often a mixer is installed in a place where the operator does
not see or hear well. IPAD control allows the operator to be anywhere in the
room including on stage to adjust the monitors.
3. Onboard Processing. Equalizers, compressors, delays and effects are built
into a digital mixer which eliminates the need for a rack of external processing
devices.
4. Digital Recording. Most digital mixers have recording systems built-in. This
eliminates the need for external recorders.
When you purchase a Soundcraft or Allen & Heath digital mixer from Sound
Planning, we provide programming and training to insure that you get all the
benefits this technology offers.
